Thank you for submitting a request/input to the Club Racing Board. The details of your request can be found below.
Letter ID Number: #28696 Title: Cylinder Heads Class: AS Request: Review the Edelbrock 608979, 608879 as these are nomore and according to Eddelbrock they will not resume making them. I checked with Edelbrock, Summit and Jegs they all said discontinued I realize they still make Performer RPM head's slightly different than the SCCA legal one's would you consider that as an alternative Please let us know!Sincerely, Gregg Ditzian ![]() |

Gregg:
Thanks for the heads up. They have stopped making the SCCA heads. They have no Chevy heads on the shelf and one set of Ford Heads. No such luck at Jegs or Summitt. Did you check with Lane Automotive? Based on discussions with the head of technical sales, the guy that helped us out 12 years ago, I think that there is a solution. BTW they sold 8 heads since 2016. New management has deleted over 100 heads. Very few bare heads are being sold going forward. They have an NHRA head that they sell the heck out of which is a possibility but this will need to be reviewed and studied. Last edited by smithpr; 03-10-2020 at 03:36 PM. |

I did a little research tonight on the Ford Edelbrock AS heads:
p/n 602579 (Ford head with valves) in stock @ Summit p/n 602479 (Ford bare head) 10 in stock at Hangar Racing, (amazon) I would expect that this stock will be consumed quickly now that Edelbrock is no longer making these heads |

I have one bare casting that has never been run. We cut different valves jobs in it. Best offer

Don't the standard Performer RPM head have a 2.02" intake valve and the AS head have a 1.94" intake valve? I guess we could go smaller, to the 1.90". If I read the rules correctly we can put 1.94" Intake and 1.55" Exhaust valves in any approved head, not just the spec head.

Tim --
I believe you are correct. If I remember correctly, the only mod to the "special" make of that head for AS is that valve size reduction. (Please if I am incorrect, someone correct me!). And, I have also heard the reason that was done, was because the 2.02 valve would interfere physically with a 3.75" bore, aka, the Chevy 305 block. Pam |
