Ed is in making 6 and the largest class in the group. Anyone else considering it?

Due to a lack of entries in SRF (group 5) and DOT (group 6), we are revising the schedule. We will be combining these two groups, re-ordering the run order (so SM and STL do not run back-to-back) and adding a practice session for all groups. Here are the changes:

1. Group 5 (SRF) will be combined with group 6 (STU, STL, T3, T4). Each group only has eight entries as of this writing.
2. The combined group will now be group 6. Big formula and the sports racers will be group 5.
3. We will shorten the qualifying session from 25 to 20 minutes.
4. We will add a 15 practice session.
5. Sunday's schedule remains unchanged. Two e-prac sessions followed by the six feature races.

Note that this allows for more track time for the folks who signed up early.

Registration is still open and can be found here: wmr-scca.motorsportreg.com

The new schedule and race groups looks like this:

Group Start Finish
Practice 1 9:05 9:20
2 & 5 9:25 9:40
3 & 4 9:50 10:05
6 10:10 10:25
Qualifying 1 10:35 10:55
2 11:00 11:20
3 11:30 11:50
4 11:55 12:15
- lunch 12:15 13:15
Qualifying 5 13:15 13:35
6 13:40 14:00
Sprint Races 1 14:10 14:35
2 14:45 15:10
3 15:20 15:45
4 15:55 16:20
5 16:30 16:55

Default weekend write up

First off we were anxiously awaiting Tom's arrival but no show. What happened? They called your name over the PA on Saturday with a lap time even and we were all like 'Did any of you see Tom out there?' Hopefully everything is alright and you just ran out of time.

It was hot and muggy Saturday and the afternoon race was a hot one. Ed got to .2 of the track record @ a 1:26.4 and had us covered as we were all in the 27's and 28's. Ed got 'parked' on the start and we all shuffled around until he worked his way back through. Craig, Mark and I had some great dicing and everyone finished with smiles and not a mark on the car.

Sunday we raced in the morning with cooler temps and overcast skies but still muggy. I would not have thought the track was that fast in those conditions but the times sure showed otherwise. Ed got REEEAAAALLLY parked on the start and exiting turn 1 this time and got shuffled back to 4th in class behind Craig and me. Mark was running like a scalded dog trying to get away from us as we were stuck in with some out of class traffic. It took a lap and a half but Ed and I both got a great run coming onto the front straight and split Craig** With Ed going DEEEEEPPPP on the brakes to get both of us into 1. (**Craig drives the cleanest notch fox body you will ever find and absolutely hustles that thing around on 4 lug wheels with Baer brakes and iron heads. He calls it his AS time capsule.)

Ed caught and worked his way past Mark and I put my head down and did the same. After 2 laps of door handle to door handle down the straight with over and under passes in 1 and 2 I was able to stay ahead. Usually at this time Ed would have gapped us pretty badly but he wasn't all that far ahead so I got the Idea he might have an issue and I could run him down. Sure enough I was catching him and he was obviously down a bit on power. I got by and tried to run away but in running him down I had badly corded the LF and was having a hard time carrying speed through the long right hander (essentially the back straight) on the backside of the course. Being Ed, during this time he was diagnosing his issue and figuring out what he could do to drive around it and was gaining back any advantage I had built. Through his diagnosis he figured out different gears for each corner to negate the miss and Ran a 1:26.0 on the last lap (for those keeping score that is under the track record in a car with a miss). That is why he is Ed. But luckily he was still down on power on the straight so I was able to hold on for the win.
Final score is a new track record for Ed @ a 1:25.419 and I was able to sneak into a 1:25.943 which I am absolutely ecstatic about. After 17 seasons in the best class the SCCA has to offer I got my first national win. Being able to run within .5 of Ed makes it feel earned as well. Again everyone finished with smiles and not a mark on a car. Absolutely fabulous weekend.

The car is finally ‘sorted’ and has a fresh aluminum head engine (3 weekends old) and I will be putting it and every AS specific item I have acquired up for sale shortly feel free to PM if anyone is interested. I am not going anywhere just need to switch things up for a bit.
