I suppose there are people who'd take the position that since I only race this class on a divisional level - and not 8 race weekends a year - that my opinion isn't particularly noteworthy. I've always done this at a level I can afford and tried to always remember that we race for $5 trophies. As a result, I've always been reluctant to spend a pile of money on my Fox Mustang, especially knowing the club's history of rules creep.
These rules changes are shocking, to say the least, to people like me. My observation is that every Fox Mustang in the class has just been promoted from "2nd tier AS car" to "Future Barn Find". In addition, the wheel manufacturers must be thrilled, what with likely several thousand wheels having been just obsoleted. I am not well versed in the rules change process, but thought that something like this has to have a pretty significant "Comment/Feedback Leadtime", or am I wrong about that? I suppose that the financial calculation is that the club figures that running off the few remaining Fox Mustangs and Gen3 Camaros will be made up with increasing numbers of later cars. I've had fun here, but I guess I'll move on to a class (likely, vintage racing) where my car won't be dangerously slow. Take care and good luck. |

There are a lot of changes proposed in the December Prelims. The rear coil over rule makes sense to me, since it allows T2 to AS cross over for the modern Mustangs. I understand the logic for the alternate head rule, we need to have a replacement for the full prep Edelbrock heads that are out of production. The proposed change that makes absolutely no sense to me is the wheel size change. This rule change will force full prep teams to throw away 4-5 sets of 8" width rims and replace them with 10" width rims. The full prep cars that upgrade to the 10" rim should see better handling and lower lap times. I fail to see what this achieves other than making the full prep cars faster as a class and stimulating the economy. I plan to write letter to the CRB opposing the wheel size change.

The wheel change was discussed at the Runoffs meeting with not much opposition, if any. I didn't envision it going to 10" though when it was being discussed. 9" for 275 and 9.5" for 295 seems sufficient to me.

Yes, IMHO, there should be WDYTs again...
But write letters now, with your opinion one way or the other, Pam |

Just because you can run bigger wheels doesn't mean you HAVE to. I never get the complaints on that stuff. Run what you got and if you want to go bigger, you can. Same complaints last year with the 13" rotors.
My wheels size for RP Fbody stayed the same at 17x9. Is there really much performance advantage to the mid packer of bigger wheels and keeping the tire size the same? |
