From the Thrill of Victory to the Agony of Defeat...

Sorry to take a week to post this, but the frustration level with the car has been intense this week. The NJMP national was a good race for everyone else, but Danny didn't even leave the grid... So his 4th race will have to be elsewhere.

Turns out with absolutely no symptoms until Sunday morning in warmups (we arrived Saturday night with Danny to do warmups and start from the back -- he had class all day Saturday), we had a complete failure of the battery and alternator on the grid (not sure which took out which, but both were very aged). No, we don't have a voltmeter, but that is in the plans. We got the car back together today with a new Optima Battery and new alternator (BTW, with the gel battery, one doesn't need the marine box). Everything seems to be fine, at this point (yes, we are keeping an eye on the MSD, but so far, it is fine).

So, congrats to all those that had a successful/great race last Sunday. Here's the finish:

Well it could be a Peugot alternator, motor, or halfshaft...

No he wasn't in your car, but perhaps the two cars were thinking of each other...

And no there was not Peugot about it. Sears Die Hard Gold (albeit almost 10 years old) and the standard reman Chevy alternator.

Now have an Optima battery (doesn't require a battery box! Yeah!) and a high quality newly reman Chevy alternator. There are now 14.3 volts going to the battery... And, I will be ordering a voltmeter soon.

Yes, I admit that is optimism. But, until I went through my records, I didn't actually know it was that old (I went through my records after the failure). But, yes, in reality, that is very optimistic, even for a Die Hard Gold purchase in January 2001...
