Seems like someone owns stock in the RP 4th gen world. Good thing my Foxbody is so heavy really love the direction things are going lately.... can’t wait to race an SMG car in the rain, that abs + big tires + big brakes + downforce + lack of torque from the 4.6 boat anchor should really make things competitive HAHAHAHA. I’m all for more cars but come on at least make them unplug the abs. And the 4th gen was already a podium finisher at the runoffs why not make it faster?

Be sure to check out the final Minutes. There's a little sentence in red at the top that makes all the changes (including the trans, flywheel and clutch as well as the cam kit) effective 3/1/19.

We are destined for vintage. They don't want old Mustangs around anymore.

But I'll take it.
Hot cam, full race clutch and flywheel, and Tremec transmission for my 4th Gen Camaro RP...wow, Christmas came late. BUT....I think this is the wrong way to go for A Sedan. Just on the face of it the level of performance has been moved up to Spec Mustang equality...but not for all cars. The Fox Mustangs seem left in the "we don't really want you anymore..thanks for help building the class" category...as do the ex-T2 Mustangs from the last 8 years. In my mind all the new direction does is increase costs. It would make more sense to me to keep the rules the way they are and require SMG to meet current AS prep/performance levels, i.e., drop the ABS, wing, splitter, wheels, tires, etc and meet AS FP rules for those items and a few more. Let them run in AS for a year or two then give them allowances, if needed. Having a RP 1999 Camaro I've just gotten a chance to add around 30 rwhp or more with proper tuning. $600 for the cam and spring kit, $0 for easy do-it-yourself installation, $500 for retune and boom...might as well get a 15# flywheel and hot clutch setup at the same time...$1400 plus free labor...so for under $2500 I've got a car that a top driver could run with the SMG cars in the NorPac Division and have a shot at the Runoffs. So here we go on rules creep instead of rules stability. Jeez. I'm glad I'm just going to run out there this year to have fun and won't be spending the $$$...haha, it wouldn't do me any good anyway..probably actually make it harder for me to drive with the extra power and torque. But maybe it'd be fun to see what Aaron Bailey could do in the car at the July Hoosier Super Tour race at Laguna Seca...hmmm...if I sold that copy of Batman #11 it'd be the same as free parts. To be continued. Last edited by Richard Pryor; 01-24-2019 at 08:41 PM. |

now that I've been thinking about it...the cam, etc for 4th gen RP cars isn't enough. With that cam it's imperative that the CRB also allow larger fuel injectors (44# instead of 28# would be nice), headers instead of the restrictive stock exhaust manifolds..and while we're at it a larger TB and maybe a FAST intake manifold...yeah, that's the balance we need now.

It's only been said about 1,000 times, but this is what started the slide to where we are today. Early on, AS cars were basically "IT/GT". Add a part here and a part there, and voila, we have the 1970 Trans Am! (but for more money).
Adding a cam to the RP cars is only going to decrease reliability, and then you'll be on the merry go round for better parts that can deal with extra power. Good luck. |

The RP Camaro already was competitive. It's been on the podium at Runoffs several recent years. This is just picking and choosing which cars they want to win. Can I start writing letters to get more for my fox Mustang? I can but won't get it because I'm not on a committee or rules board. System is broken.
