Default Results: Thunderhill Double Natl

From memory,

Saturday

Qual

1 Aaron Bailey - 2:00.9 (new qual track record)
2 Dylan Olsen - 2:02.xx (under previous track record)
3 Kevin Smith - 2:07.2

Race
1 Aaron Bailey - 2:01.xx (new race track record)
2 Dylan Olsen - 2:02.xx (under previous track record)
3 Kevin Smith - 2.07.3

Aaron's home track, Dylan's first time at Thill, my first time there since 2004.
I didn't have anything, nothing, nada for either of these guys. They took
off and left me.

Sunday

Qual:
1 - Aaron Bailey - 2:02.xx
2 - Kevin Smith - 2:06.09 - new personal best at Thill
3 - Dylan Olsen - 2:06.xx (they qual'd on really old tires, saving good ones)

Race: (we left before final results were available)
1 - Aaron Bailey - don't know lap times
2 - Dylan Olsen - don't know lap times
DNF or 3 - Kevin Smith - 2:06.xx

I got a good start, led into turn 1 with Dylan on my outer rear corner,
and Aaron behind us both. Dylan beat me into turn 2 and started pulling
away. I was driving very hard, and kept Aaron behind me for a lap and
a half, but then he got by. In 4 or 5 laps he caught up to Dylan and
got by him as well. I lost right fron tire pressure going up hill past turn 8.
Turned out to be another broken centerline wheel. We'll see if I get a finish
or DNF. We should have changed the tire and gone back out and gotten
a couple of more laps to be sure, but I asked if we were past half way.
And it was time-wise, but I may not have done 1/2 laps of leader.
My mistake for not making sure I got half laps.

BTW, it was great to meet Aaron Bailey and his dad Dean, and Darryl Seefeldt, and
to be racing again with Dylan and his dad Scott Olsen, and to have Todd
Cook (also an AS racer) come down with me for the weekend to help out.

Yes, Aaron had a red LS1 restricted prep firebird, on BFG tires.

Dylan was on Goodyears, in ex-Chris Billings'/Scott Olsen fox body
iron-head mustang. Previous best time for that car at Thill was 2:04.99
in 2004 at March double national.

I was in my 93 firebird, alum head 312 inch "full" prep car, on hoosiers.

Kevin:

It was great meeting you. I hope to make up your way this year to run a race or two. I plan to run the T'Hill national next year. Maybe we can have a good solid AS field by then. Glad to see you shaved some more time off Sunday morning. As we discussed, I think you need a little taller gear.

Give me a call some time in regards to your wheel problem. I know of a solution.

The restricted prep LS1 car is setting the bar in NPDIV. It will be interesting to see how they do at the Runnoffs.

I don't know how old Aaron is, but I'd guess early 20s.
Dylan is 20. Both a couple of young whippersnappers .
I'd do this: , but Dylan's too young for that.

'Bout enough shake-n-bake for a whole dinner.

Scott:

Take a look at last year's runoffs video. I think that shows how Aaron will do at the runoffs this year. If I remember correctly, he passed at least 11 cars in the rain after being involved in that first lap incident. He is a very talented driver in well prepared equipment.

Danny "The old Kid" will soon be just Danny "the old" with this crowd. Of course, he will never be as old as I am.
But then, I never called myself "the kid" either.
