I spent my Easter polluting a young mind with our racing disease...er I mean "Introducing him to racing".
My 3 year old Nephew got an electric Razor go kart today (they're pretty fast). He brought it over to our house "Looking for a race". I obliged...we started the "Easter Day Gran Prix" Lil' Bret beat me by a nose every lap. ![]() Later on I added a little tire pressure and did a little drifting around the driveway....the wife shook her finger at me. Fortunately not the middle one. BUT, I think the young one is hooked...guys we got another one. ![]() Patrick James |

They are a little rubber wheel of some sort. Its a great idea.
Its not pink..its some kind of odd red/gray color (must be the camera). But if it is Pink thats OK too, just respect these Karts. With a top speed of over 120 mph and lap times on almost any track MUCH faster than almost any car. Get one, they'll educate you. I won a track championship with it amongst some fierce competition that would knock you out of the park for a position (get in front and stay in front). These guys (like most Kart racers) knew the edge and stay there all the time..every lap and have some great sucker moves that are instituted in a tenth of a second. We plug them into a laptop and down load track data, Shift points G' forces, track maps, even build dyno curves etc..for pipe and carb tuning it even has a wide band 02 system on it and displays lap and segment times on the fly. The cornering and braking G's are well into 2.5 to 3 g range...take a deep breath and turn the corner, cuz you can't draw a breath in while you're turning. Get a carbon fiber rib vest...or you will break a rib. Your ribs can't take the turning without the vest. They break...been there. They are great practice tools. Then you can get in your A sedan car and drive it HARD. But you better be in shape, cuz these karts are not forgiving and they'll wreck you if you drive them tired (kind of like operating a chainsaw...when you get tired put it down or you'll get hurt). Ask some of your A sedan racers...I bet many of them have employed Karts as a training tool or are part of their background. That ones for sale for $12,000 (including spares) it's heavily modified with a paddle shifter on the steering wheel and comes with the computer and all. The next move to round out a persons training, is a very high powered drag car..so fear of hard acceleration won't scare them. My main test car goes 0-60 in under 2 seconds on Alky and is going 80 mph before the front tires come back down. I have almost 600 passes in that car. Thats a rush too...heres a pic. |

Or you can have the acceleration of your drag car and the cornering of a kart if you put a 600 cc Yamaha R6 in your kart. My friends just broke the record at Bonneville last year. And yes this kart on pavement rips past a 120 mph like nothing but on the salt a jazzed up 125 cc kart has trouble hitting 100 mph. It wasn't even geared right and the motor is stock and tired. But sure sounds pretty cool. |

I had a friend a few years back who had a kart that he raced...that thing was nasty fast. As for drag racing...I have a family background in drag racing, and I was a crew member for a team that ran the 1/8th mile in Elizabeth City NC for a few years before I moved away. I was a Mustang fan on a Camaro team...like a fish out of water. That was many years ago...
Now my budget limits me to one project at a time...probably a good thing. ![]() |
